Isn’t it wonderful that April showers will bring beautiful May flowers?
As wonderful as water is in greening up our yards, the rain showers are a good reminder to be thinking about your pipes. It may not be a glamorous thing to think about but being aware of the signs of underlying problems when it comes to your water and sewer lines, you can avoid the high cost of water damage.
Watch for these signs:
Low Water Pressure
Low water pressure isn’t just an annoyance, it may be a sign of a bigger problem. If you notice a drop in your water pressure, be sure to give us a call to inspect what may be the source of the decrease. It can be due to a leak caused by a loose fitting or damage to a pipe.
Slow Drains
Buildup of soap and hair in you drains can lead to issues over time. Even if you are careful and try to keep your drains clean, sometimes blockages happen down the line. Sometimes the cause is from roots seeking water in a miniscule crack. If you live in an older home that may have iron or clay pipes, roots find their way into the tiniest of opportunities causing havoc.
Snaking the lines to remove debris is often necessary. If you have a serious root problem with older sewer pipes, you can have the lines snaked regularly as a temporary fix. This will only hold off the problem for a while, though. It’s a good idea to ask us for an estimate on replacing the pipes with PVC. That way you’ll have an idea of what to budget for when the issue returns.
Noisy Pipes
If your pipes creak or rumble when you turn on the faucet or do laundry, don’t chalk it up to your house having “character.” Be aware of any gurgling sounds. There may be an underlying problem that your pipes are in serious need of maintenance. Before your pipes spring a leak, it’s a good idea to have them checked out.
High Water Bill
Sometimes you don’t have obvious signs that there may be a problem, but if you see a significant increase in your water bill, it’s worth an inspection to see if there’s a leak somewhere down the water line.
Pooling Water in Your Yard
If you notice pooling of water in your yard that isn’t associated with the recent rain shower, there is likely a problem. If that pooling water has a foul smell, you’ll likely need sewer pipe repair or replacement.
